Uber is not in the business of making money for their drivers. There's a reason that all their advertising is focused on recruiting new drivers as opposed to touting their actual services. Taxi companies are set up to make money for their drivers, while Uber operates on the Walmart model of low employee wages and high turnover. She wants to call herself a journalist, but she doesn't want to be seen dirtying her hands doing actual reporting or anything.

You've pointed it out over and over and over, how McArdle creates this mask of herself as one of the "elite," and I see this as just another way she pretends to be part of a crowd that probably barely notices her as the girl standing around the edges of the talk, pretending to be one of the boys, chuckling at jokes she doesn't get and understand schemes that are just beyond her, until they need her to fetch another drink (or hack out a propaganda piece against whatever sensible issue the actual Elite are annoyed by at the moment). Hell, I've known Amish kids with a seventh grade education who only expect to own cars for a couple of years at the most who know this. The concept of car pooling came from it. Uber drivers can surely do the math to decide if it's worth it. And she doesn't even seem to adress the markets where it is most likely to be profitable.Clever Pseudonymnoreply@blogger.com
