Eventually the turd in the punchbowl will be revealed.
Repeating mistakes is definitely a useful filter for viewing their behaviors. Also probably annihilation is the only way to bring them peace. I looked it up and of course it's repeating patterns, which is exactly what happened between Angel, his father and his son.

All of them were trying to strike out on their own without a support structure and the problems of adolescence still very much with them. (With vampirism as a metaphor for eternal adolescence.) And all of them depended on an external image to give them some self esteem. Angel craved public recognition of his good traits; hero status, leader of the vampire pack, Vampire With A Soul, boyfriend of the Slayer. It didn't mean he wasn't all those things but it meant that he would do harmful things to maintain that image, such as try to control his girlfriend and his son's view of him by controlling their lives to a certain extent.

Wes hid behind his Watcher persona and one of the most fascinating things in the show was watching all the artifice be stripped away, leaving the true Wes behind, although scarred by his own mistakes and self-loathing.

Cordy seemed utterly self-confident but losing her status affected her nonetheless. When she lost her wealth she found self-worth through working with Angel. When she became connected to TPTB an enormous hole in her life was filled up. She was special again and she could not give that up even if it cost her her life.

Cordy's parents McArdled her, Angel and Wes' fathers abused them, and they repeated the patterns of their youth over and over. Wes finally began to move on because he was able to face his emotional issues and start to understand his father.

But Angel and Cordy sought more power to overcome their problems. Wolfram and Hart and demonization (something Buffy explicitly rejected at the same time) merely gave them more power to repeat the same mistakes.

Seeking more power is never the answer. Sharing power multiplies it.

Don't get me started!Susan of Texashttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00076915322771385454noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2222630007427380394.post-1612281000506975752014-02-20T09:28:44.752-06:002014-02-20T09:28:44.752-06:00Oh man, I miss Angel...Oh man, I miss Angel... fishhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01522672049371678717noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2222630007427380394.post-24985214438821543652014-02-19T09:12:39.987-06:002014-02-19T09:12:39.987-06:00Wolfram and Hart is like Atlas Shrugged with demon...Wolfram and Hart is like Atlas Shrugged with demons.Susan of Texashttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00076915322771385454noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2222630007427380394.post-77611469362469145152014-02-19T09:09:40.358-06:002014-02-19T09:09:40.358-06:00It's about three sisters in their late teens. ...It's about three sisters in their late teens. Their livelihood and social position depends on one of them attaining an apprenticeship with a wealthy coven. (That's the Jane Austen part.) The rest is pure me--they must overcome the burdens placed on them by their parents, society and selves to succeed.
