My point was that major publications don't seem to fire people over threatened subscriptions when it comes to low rent bloggers-turned-columnists that people wouldn't pay to read anyway. I remember the days of smart, witty, insightful columnists that people bought papers for just to read their columns.Clever Pseudonymnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2222630007427380394.post-5826435768474442122017-01-29T12:49:29.306-06:002017-01-29T12:49:29.306-06:00I think it was lying about her connections to the ...I think it was lying about her connections to the Koches that got her canned.Susan of Texashttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00076915322771385454noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2222630007427380394.post-3460088617560600722017-01-29T12:30:04.063-06:002017-01-29T12:30:04.063-06:00How many cancelled Atlantic subscriptions did it t...How many cancelled Atlantic subscriptions did it take for McArdle to get canned?Clever Pseudonymnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2222630007427380394.post-21912248063511159922017-01-29T11:23:00.091-06:002017-01-29T11:23:00.091-06:00Would they fire him if they think he's alienat...Would they fire him if they think he's alienating all those new subscribers?Susan of Texashttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00076915322771385454noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2222630007427380394.post-72232438422098516302017-01-29T09:08:35.368-06:002017-01-29T09:08:35.368-06:00And the nonsense about "clarity" and &qu...And the nonsense about "clarity" and "fog" is stupid. Trump is straightforward to a fault. Douthat is essentially saying we can't predict the outcome of his policies, so we should all just shut up and stay calm after the shit hits the fan. It's his usual condescending tone, "why can't everyone be as reasonable as me?" I'm over being upset at the horrid ideas of pundits. At this point, I'd settle for one who can simply write well and leave their false notions of superiority out of their work.Clever Pseudonymnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2222630007427380394.post-69324364820386262752017-01-29T08:49:50.060-06:002017-01-29T08:49:50.060-06:00Getting canned by the Times is tough, but not impo...Getting canned by the Times is tough, but not impossible. In the past 24 hours we've had heart-rending scenes and stories of Muslim people being rended, detained, and torn away from their families by this cruel and unusual and nasty "executive order". That no lawyer had looked over, and that the DHS and other government agencies germane to the topic weren't even consulted about.

"We’ll find out whether Trump’s refugee and visa freezes from Muslim countries are actually temporary, a means to stricter screening, or whether they become permanent."

FUCK YOU ROSS GODDAMN DOUTHAT. (Please forgive my swearing, Susan.) We are finding out right now, with dramatic scenes of detention, families being separated and torn apart, global uproar, America's humiliation, and protests and demonstrations at airports happening now that will be hugely continuing tomorrow. Nothing "prosaic" about that, you shitty little worm. These are real lives being damaged, these are our ideals and values as a nation being utterly assaulted by Trump and Bannon, and that whole criminal gang of creeps who are actively sabotaging our nation, with alacrity. They are dismantling our government and our whole international standing and power in the world with frightening speed. Attacking our friends and allies and cozying up to enemy dictators like Putin.

This is all shocking and nauseating beyond all belief. And for this little creep Douthat to prattle like that.. the NY Times needs to fire him, for journalistic malfeasance, and malevolent lying. He really, really needs to be let the fuck go, his writing is less than worthless and always has been. And he's saying, "no big deal" about the immense and frightening pain being inflicted on hundreds or thousands of people, overnight declared enemies of the state- he has to fucking go, or the Times better tell us why they continue to hire this fucking callous little toad. He'd be better off at Breitbart. Fire him, NYTimes. Belvoirhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18434724232693713684noreply@blogger.com
