Jesus's movement toward a religious reformation which threatened Rome's control over the Establishment Jews who ran the colony for them WAS politics. His execution was an effort on the part of both the ruling council of the Jews and the Roman governor (Pilate) to put paid to a potentially dangerous element of Jerusalem's restless urban rabble.

Many parts of the Jesus story are VERY interesting if you look at them from a secular "jockeying for power" point of view.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2222630007427380394.post-21541363607780932942008-10-27T09:48:00.000-05:002008-10-27T09:48:00.000-05:00He was running for Messiah. Naah...no..."Jesus wrote much of the New Testament"? Naah...not so much. Actually, Jesus didn't write anything...all anyone thinks they know about him was written by others. Most of the New Testament was written by Paul, which is probably mostly what's wrong with it. Paul spent a lot of time in jail, or trying to avoid it. Apparently, quite a few people thought he was a tiresome scold and know-it-all, which is why I'd like to see Obama lay off the Jesus talk after he's (God willing) elected.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
