The rhetorical tricks, the half-lies and evasions, the slight-of-hand and misdirection. <br /><br />But the real question is why do people fall for this, even when they know better? The psychology of it is fascinating. We put up mental barriers--like maze walls--whenever we refuse to think about something that gives us distress.
