  2. Wow. I've never really read Crook's stuff and after that link, I don't plan to ever again.

"Europeans have reason to be grateful for the myth of American exceptionalism, if it helped to move the US to rescue them from fascism and shield them from communism in the 20th century."

Uh...the US only entered World War II reluctantly and only after it was attacked and Hitler declared war on it a few days after. I can't stand all that macho posturing about how we "saved the Europeans." We did it because it was the right thing to do, not so that generations of Americans to come would have eternal gloating rights. Europe was being attacked for YEARS before we sent troops over there. As for "containing Communism," tell that to Hungary and Poland and then-Czechoslovakia. He really ought to distinguish Western from Eastern Europe. Plus, Crook writes this as if we did it out of some kind of selfless charity and not because of any national interest in "winning" the Cold War.

So, EVERY blogger at the Atlantic is an idiot?

  3. Evidently--yes. I linked to sites that proved every other claims of his was bogus or irrelevent. Oddly, he didn't approve my comment.
