Megan McArdle: B.A., MBA, F.U.

Shorter Megan McArdle: Since I have special influence, plenty of money, and employer-and-government subsidized health insurance, other people do not need health care reform.

  1. Is Megan completely incapable of backing up her arguments with anything other than a personal anecdote?

  2. Not incapable per se, CP. She just firmly believes nothing more is necessary to unequivocally prove that she's right. Ipse dixit, indeed.

  3. Megan shows all the insight and self-awareness of a fanacical adolescent.

I expect that her reaction if you asked her to help out around the home/babysit would be on about the same level as well.

As a novice Megan watcher, I'm interested, has she ever said anything that you regulars found profound or insightful?

  4. Euripides,
No. She used to be better at wrapping pedestrian thoughts in fifty cent words, but has gotten lazier about it since she turned pro. She's always had that insufferable, condescending tone that implies she can barely shoulder the burden of having to be so much smarter and more civilized than everyone else.

  5. Batocchio, thanks. There are quite a few good responses to McArdle this time. It's good to see some pushback from the pros. We amateurs get tired.

I can't think of anything insightful or profound--McArdle tends to just echo what others say.

  6. I found something--she said Dick Francis' main character in his books deal with lonliness, which does show some insight.

Too bad McArdle's too proud to be a high school teacher. She might have done okay at that job, if she weren't so emotionally needy.

  7. Completely misses the point . . . poorer people benefit disproportionately from health insurance because they aren't middle-class professionals who can pay for health care out of pocket. Health care reform may be a low priority for her, but for millions of Americans, it is very high priority.
