I really don't get Breitbart's success as a "journalist." His style is hyperbolic, aggressive, and so absurdly in-your-face, even if I shared his opinions, I wouldn't appreciate his output. I once read some absurd article of his where he describe Gloria Steinem as a "Playboy bunny" - presumably on the basis of her superb undercover work exposing the mistreatment of women at those men's clubs Hefner used to run. How big of an idiot does someone have to be to make that the basis of an epithet that implies Steinem has loose morals?
He seems to just enjoy the rush. He loves to get in everyone's face and get his ire up and start screaming at people. He's one big screaming grudge looking for a target.
(1) In general. The penalty provided by this section shall be paid upon notice and demand by the Secretary, and except as provided in paragraph (2) , shall be assessed and collected in the same manner as an assessable penalty under subchapter B of chapter 68.
(2) Special rules. Notwithstanding any other provision of law—
(A) Waiver of criminal penalties. In the case of any failure by a taxpayer to timely pay any penalty imposed by this section , such taxpayer shall not be subject to any criminal prosecution or penalty with respect to such failure.
(B) Limitations on liens and levies. The Secretary shall not—
(i) file notice of lien with respect to any property of a taxpayer by reason of any failure to pay the penalty imposed by this section , or
(ii) levy on any such property with respect to such failure.
so it's pretty much as collectible as any provate bill.
I guess e-mails will have to substitute for actual knowledge.
McArdle is becoming a good conduit for passing on messages from the tea baggers. I wonder how far she can go in their support before she embarrasses herself even further. No doubt we'll find out.
but somebody really needs to 'splain to her that she's supposed to get a clue BEFORE posting. That's exactly what Susan and the fellas at FMM have been doing. Not to mention some of her commentariat. As they say in my parts, those who can't be advised, cannot be helped.
When I told The Atlantic I was dropping my subscription, the nice person on the phone said "Yeah, we're getting a lot of that."
McArdle is not quite beneath contempt: thanks for the mocking. Glad to see that you avoid her sometimes: prolonged exposure can not be good for one's mind.

ReplyDeleteTax collection is a fairly important topic. It's pretty appalling that nobody has explained the fairly basic terms of it.

Didn't Bush try to privatize the IRS? I heard their budget was slashed and many employees laid off in order to prove that Government Doesn't Work?
