Ann Althouse:
"[D]o you think that a woman like Bradley, who seriously considered calling the cops because Prosser used a profanity about another justice..."
"... would not call the cops if she was the victim of an unprovoked, physical assault in front of witnesses?"
Asks Darleen at Protein Wisdom, noting that Bradley is "now upping the ante by specifically alleging to the press that, Prosser put her in a 'choke hold.'"
I would truly like to know who made the decision to go public with this accusation. Was it one of the judges or someone lower down, with less awareness of the mess it would make, like a law clerk or summer intern?

I don't understand why the Wisconsin justice isn't filing a police report against the colleague she says choked her. #professionalcourtesy?

@ @lakeline She has publicly alleged that he put her in a choke hold.

@ @TheAlexKnapp Very unlikely that Prosser would go to jail for such a minor assault.

@ @TheAlexKnapp Liberal judges claim he attacked her; conservative judges claim she attacked him. Seems to me an investigation is warranted.

@ @TheAlexKnapp But perhaps she is even now swearing out a complaint. At this point, one of them has to go.

@ @TheAlexKnapp She's accusing him of assault. I don't think that's a matter for the ethics committee.

@ @TheAlexKnapp Accusing someone of a criminal offense w/o filing a police report casts doubt on your claims, esp. if witnesses disagree w/you

@ @TheAlexKnapp She has made a very serious allegation. He deserves either punishment or a chance to clear his name.

@ @TheAlexKnapp Sure, people are funny. But in this case, I think she has to file a report, same as she would in any other workplace.

@ @drgitlin Um, she was talking about the Chief Justice, who seems to be letting things get out of hand.

@ @drgitlin It was a different judge who either attacked, or was attacked by, her colleague

@ @drgitlin Wisconsin is doing an excellent job making the case for appointed justices

That's right, McArdle doesn't have the faintest idea why an attack by one state supreme court judge on another is not treated like a random street crime, because she's not very bright.
Or perhaps she's just a good little Koch-whore wingnut who supports the Wisconsin conservatives because Koch Industries has twelve plants in the state.

So, if, say, during a staff meeting at The Atlantic, a debate developed between Jeffrey Goldberg (before his departure, of course) and Miss Megan of Donnybrook Farm, Miss Megan would have no problem if Goldberg grabbed her by the throat and then dodged jail time?
Perhaps Miss Megan would favor Goldberg, what, denying her claim that he had grabbed her by the throat during a heated debate in a staff meeting?
Maybe, in such a case, Goldberg could call Avigdor Lieberman and get him to declare diplomatic immunity for the former IDF guard?
McArdle would let him so her career would not suffer. He has more power than she does so she would let him do whatever he wanted.
ReplyDeleteIt's amusing, though, that she would simultaneously declare that Prossner wouldn't go to jail over such a minor matter (presumably because of his importance) and also that the assault must be reported because assaulting a judge is a serious matter.
Both Ms. Althouse and Ms. McArdle are feminists who understand that sometimes a dood, err Supreme Court Justice just has to choke a bitch.

Or sometimes a dude is just standing there and a crazy woman shoves her neck into his hands.
ReplyDeleteSo now the Business and Economics Editor of the Atlantic has been promoted to the Law & the Courts Editor as well. Great.
ReplyDelete>> I am generally suspicious of people who want cases tried in the press, but not in court.
ReplyDeleteMegan has an excellent point here. Remember that "feminist" blogger who complained that her client was sexually harassing her yet failed to make a formal complaint? (The creep would move his computer so that women had to expose their private parts!)
What ever happened with that?
Journalism: Don't ask questions.
ReplyDeleteThe funniest thing about McArdle is that it doesn't even occur to her to ask questions. She's said that her job is to write down what she's told to say and she believes it. That just cracks me up.

You mean no Avidgor Lieberman vs. Ron Paul? No Bibi What A Yahoo vs. Rand Paul?
Put the four of 'em in a broom closet with four-inch-thick glass walls, give each of 'em a Dick Cheney-certified BB gun with 200 shots, and who ever crawls out last decides whether Miss Megan of Donnybrook Farm or the IDF guard gets to keep writing for the hacks in the U.S. of A.
Just to recap, the Darleen Click that Althouse is citing is the one who drew and published the Obama is raping the white woman of Liberty" cartoon. There seems to be no one creepy or bizarre enough but top-level right-wing blogs will link to them without reservation.
