Yes, I'm still gone but I figured out how to solve our political problems. Become Republicans.

Later: As always, we need to find the enemy's greatest strength and use it against him. Since political authoritarianism is currently too strong to undermine or nullify with a competing authority we are forced to find an authority they will accept. Therefore we must become Republicans, take over their tea parties, support liberal Republicans, who will be empowered by the addition of a new voting bloc, and take over the party. Then we will elect our new liberal Republican government, who will start imposing laws that chip away at the current ones which empower corporate control over the government.
I'll have what she's drinking.

She's correct. Think about it for a minute.
ReplyDeleteI had perhaps a similar thought, though likely a different approach (posted on my blog). That is to vote for true progressives in primaries, but if they lose those primaries, vote for the most crazy GOP republican (or whomever their opponent is). I figure 1) if we are going to get GOP policies anyway, make the GOP take the blame for them and 2) make Democrats realize that either they are progressive or we might as well vote Republican - that might get them to listen to progressives instead of ignoring them.
ReplyDeleteDo I have to play golf?
ReplyDeleteThe Episcopal or the Saddleback type? Mormon?
Do I get to vault into the top 1% of earners (I guess not if it's the Saddleback variety).
More details please!
DBB- the problem with the "most crazy" approach is that the public sees anything 1 mm to the left of them as the the sensible alternative. We actually would need a Republican in the Obama mold to bring out a truly progressive alternative.
ReplyDeleteSuch a time-waster, taking a shower five or six times a day, trying to get the stench off.
ReplyDeleteAt first glance I can't figure out why this is wrong. Certainly anything that forces nutbar Republicans to use resources to fend off moderate ones can't be a bad thing.
ReplyDeleteOn the other h., one could hope for the opposite: that the nutbars succeed just enough to move from intra-party races to actual races, into the light of day where everyone can see how krazee they are. By that logic, the reason to become a Republican would be to work on behalf of the looniest Tea Party people you can find.
Is THAT what they mean by 11-dimensional chess?
Mr. Wonderful, that would be a side benefit of my approach - or rather, part of item 1) - making the GOP take full ownership of its bullshit.
ReplyDeleteI've been strongly in favor of taking over the Republican Party for some time. (Also the Democratic Party.) Too many commentators give the GOP a pass for being evil, stupid and insane. Once upon a time, there were Republicans who cared about the social contract, and some who were even liberal. So hey, why not call up your local Republican congresscritter, pimp your Republican bona fides, praise Jesus and Reagan (not necessarily in that order), and urge him or her to fund your local school or socially responsible policy?
ReplyDeleteI sort of like this idea.
