Santorum’s surge: “I think Santorum has arrived in third place,” King says. “His ascension has been impressive. The question is whether he can win. I’m not as much of an optimist about that; I don’t see that happening. But his timing has been excellent. Another week wouldn’t help Rick Santorum. He’s already done everything he could do. In the end, I think he’ll get to third, and that will be a result of hard work, of pounding the ground.” In sparsely-populated western Iowa, Santorum, a former Pennsylvania senator, has found a way to connect with Midwestern conservatives, King says, making a national race very local, from visiting all of Iowa’s 99 counties to pheasant hunting with local pols. “He’s even a good shot,” King chuckles.
First comes the pounding, then the surging. And hey, look out for Santorum shooting his gun.
And hey, look out for Santorum shooting his gun.
ReplyDeleteHey, we're all (I think) adults here -- no need to speak in euphemisms!
"Santorum is coming from behind", thought King.

ReplyDeleteIf you've been pounding the ground in the end and see Santorum, you've gotten farther than third; you're in the dugout.
If only William F. Buckley, arrogant elite, were still alive to see how his legacy has degenerated into a collection of racists, torture apologists, pious nitwits and the terminally uncool.
ReplyDeleteThis drives me endlessly nuts and like other zombie issues, it just won't die. William F. Buckley's legacy was one of racism. The prosecution presents "Why the South Must Prevail" as evidence. Need any more (there's plenty)? I don't know if he would have endorsed torture, but since he openly sympathized with the brutal Jim Crow South, he most certainly did at one level. He was a pious nitwit as well (a nitwit if one who used a lot of big words). And though it's subjective, I think it's safe to say that Buckley was extremely uncool. Oh, and he was quite self-righteously hostile to homosexuals. So his legacy has not degenerated a whit, it is right where it should be.
Please do not suggest that Buckley was some sort of Noble (if arrogant elite) Conservative who would be aghast at where his movement ended up. He was not. He was an asshole.

ReplyDelete"Santorum Surge Leaves Romney Behind"
I'm not calling Buckley noble, I'm rubbing it in that the man the right sees as an elite intellectual was actually the ringmaster of The Three Ring Circus Of The Damned.
ReplyDeleteI suppose Buckley started the fashion of moron conservatives using big words to baffle rather than educate, and trying to sound "rather British"... like ArgleBargle!
ReplyDeleteToday is back to the worst of old-fashioned snark girl. In 10 paragraphs on Paul Krugman vs the morons, Megan never mentions what they're fighting about.
