Oops

Megan McArdle is just thrilled that corporations can spend as much money as they want to get out their political message. Why not, she trills merrily. After all, any money corporations spend to make more money is a good thing for the corporations, and what is good for corporations is good for America. And they already spend millions anyway, what's a few hundred million more? The only possible drawback she can find is the possibility that corporations might suffer from spending more money on political advertising and less on corporate advertising.

It does not occur to the little miss that the money won't be taken away from tv ads aimed at consumers. It'll come from the middle men who passed on the corporation's political message in a consumer-friendly form. It'll come from Megan McArdle.

Better than usual comments, in that some go right to the issue of Who the hell is the corporation speaking for?

Megan is just being stupid, it being a day ending in y.

Well, hell, I hadn't considered the silver lining here.

You mean... McArdle's (and Beck and Limbaugh &Co) 'services' won't be needed any more?

Well, more corporate money all over certainly opens new avenues for Ms. McArdle & her soon to be other half. They won't be half as despicable when they're clearly identified as copywriters, rather than whatever they are now.

I can't wait until unions start pouring millions into political races. McArdle will plotz.

ifthethinunderdon'tgetyou---thanks for that link. It's incredible. Goldberg should have been taken out a very long time ago.

Democrats should be paying liberal writers like me to do the dirty work. None of them have the spine or the desire to counteract the right's petty propaganda, which inevitably blooms into conventional wisdom.

Instead, I'm looking for a teaching job and Goldberg is getting a million dollars to fight diversity with a another shitty book.

Clearly you haven't been paying attention for the last 25 years. "Liberal" is now an extremely pejorative term--held in somewhat lower regard than "racist" and about on a par with "pederast." (Note that the John Birch Society--and extremely racist group--is now co-sponsoring CPAC, so racism is now respectable.)

So no Democrat is going to hire any liberal writer for anything. Democrats these days spend all of their time running HARD against liberals. Hence the craptastic HCR showing.

You wanna teaching job and easy living? Just start typing about how Obama is Pol Pot's long-lost brother. Ka-CHING!!!!

Hah. I think I would go for the alien angle. Why say he's from Kenya when you can say he's from Mars?

You're right, Democrats SHOULD be paying writers like you. Christ knows, we've got the talent. But then... who else but a Dem would vote against their own candidate and call it "sending a message"?
