I've been ill-might be back today, maybe tomorrow.
Wow--McArdle managed to write an article and post about business problems in Iraq without once mentioning Bush's Heritage Foundation legacy pledges that screwed up the post-invasion. She mentions housing seizures but not her much-loved bankruptcy bill and how it's forcing people into bankruptcy. And she has a spasm over the Huffpo/AOL merger. Strangely, now mergers are bad. She also tries to say something about conflict of interest in the Supreme Court, but as she does not think conflict of interest is a bad thing, the results are bit confusing. Finally, she defends Wall-Mart.
I don't know which was worse--reading this or passing kidney stones. At least the kidney stones are gone. McArdle's still here.

Susan, a kidney stone is one of the worst pains a human can endure. I'll be thinking of you all day and hoping you feel better soon.

When I have the energy I will probably return to McArdle's academia post. It's a perfect demonstration of why conservatives aren't in academia--it deliberately ignores facts, is full of self-pity because conservatives can't discuss their prejudices openly, and uses emotional manipulation instead of reason.
My deepest sympathy. Kidney stones are a Biblical curse. I hope you're feeling better.
I didn't know women got kidney stones! I remember the agony my Dad endured with 'em, though, and I offer heartfelt sympathy.
No one suffering like that should be made to endure ArgleBargle's blather.

Anything that gets you to post more cannot be said to be an entirely bad thing. That aside, get well soon. I've never had, or known someone who had, a kidney stone, and even I know they're terrible. Don't kill yourself getting back here, though. We'll just do some rainy day, indoor activities until you're better.
I have a Facebook friend with recurring kidney stones & no health insurance. She copes. I have no idea how.

I think she's lost track of her own argument at this point. As you said in your tweet, she was originally supposed to be arguing with Krugman's observation that there hasn't been any major advances in kitchen tech since the '50s. A multitude of other people point out that her examples are just plain wrong because her examples are mostly items that existed prior to the '50s. Her rebuttal, "Yeah, but most kitchens didn't have them," is completely missing the point. If something was invented in 1908, then whatever technological advance it represents was made in 1908, regardless of whether or not McArdle's mom had one in her kitchen in 1953. Gah!
