We Choose Our Own Reality

The Austin Statesman reports that the Austin Independent School District is considering firing over a thousand people, and a libertarian is inspired to respond in comments:

If these government workers would take across the board wage concessions it would save their jobs, but, they only think the private company employees should be laid off and take pay cuts.

Time to take the UNIONS out of public employment. No UNIONS for State, Federal, or local government employees. Do like the insurance companies do, base their reimbursement on the amounts Medicare reimburses. So, like private employment, government employment salaries should be connected to private wages.

Being a libertarian means never having to acknowledge facts.

Atlas Shrugged - you do realize that Texas is a “right to work” state, don’t you? That means that unions here have ZERO power. There are a number of teacher and public employee unions here in Texas (rather than one union per profession, like there is in union states), and NONE of these unions have the right to collectively bargain. There is no entity to agree to any proposed cuts. The unions here have no power.

And one day, God willing, the rest of the US will be just like Texas!

lolz. a while back in a constituent meetings in sacramento i watched a bunch of galtian overlords ask D and R legislators why they couldn't force pension holders to take a "cash settlement" in lieu of their benefits. the legislators all had the same answer, "why would they?" it was unfathomable to these people how the state couldn't just make them do it.

pragmatism
