Also, in shocking news, McArdle thinks wealth is distributed according to merit, and warns everyone not to question their betters.
Actually I'm not sure; I never noticed if she was listed as a Senior Editor or not. But since she made sure to note her status and her pay negotiation, I guess she did.
And it's no more than she deserves. Who else can pack so much subtext into her text?
Made up statistics (1-in-8000 chance), embarrassing typos ("Edtor"), ridiculous hyperbole (the "evil" of Adbase), and irrational temper tantrums (" Because even if I somehow acquired the budget to purchase new photographs, as god is my witness, I would make damn sure that I didn't buy one from any of the people who have wasted my time with completely unsolicited emails.").
What an obnoxious child she is.
I don't want to be looksist or anything, but the first thing I noticed about that picture is how her outward appearance is a pretty accurate reflection of who she is on the inside.
It would be interesting to determine if our liking or dislike for a person affected our ability to assess their looks--I'll bet it does.
It obviously does. Lots of studies on appearance and hiring and promotions.
I dislike attacks on people's appearances, but in Megan's case, she's lamented about her height and BMI index placement endlessly over the years and it's fair game to use her words against her in that context.
I think she looks fine. I might even say "pretty".
I think she is a hideous human being.

oh, I also think it is hilarious that she has been feeling the need to hint about her promotion lately. I predict her next book will be about how being insecure and having no self-confidence can catapult you to the top.

Given her distinguished record in that regard, she should be on the short list for God-Emperor of the Known Universe before she's done.

I made this image (I'm Geoff) and I was actually a bit struck by how attractive she is. If I saw her for the first time, I would, for whatever reason, assume she was a LIberal. I could have chosen a less appealing picture (this one for instance: http://www.pbs.org/newshour/bb/business/jan-june09/gm2_06-02.html) but I find that her attractiveness makes it even funnier.
I have mixed feelings about the issue. I don't discuss looks for several reasons, largely because it's irrelevant. But I did discuss her unprofessional tv appearance. Mostly I try to stick to one rule---if I wouldn't say it to their face, I won't say it at all. And I would not mock a person's looks to their face.

McArdle used to talk about her looks often but that only works for young women. Criticizing her looks might be fair game but I would rather use substantive criticism.

For the record, McArdle looks good, there is nothing wrong with her face, she is more attractive than moi, so, what can I say? I think Malkin is attractive, too. Even Pammy Geller is attractive, or would be if she scrubbed her face and tried to behave like a real person.

I agree. And had I chosen the less attractive image of her, it would have been mocking her appearance, when I wanted to mock her idiotic statement.
It doesn't matter what she looks like. If there were ever a case of ugly going clear to the bone...
They keep using that word "editor." I do not think it means what they think it means.
