The Virtue Of Selfishness

Old people are "supported by the state." Widows and babies are "supported by the state." Soldiers are "supported by the state." All the things our society is supposed to consider right and proper, moral and good, are "supported by the state." We should be happy to help our old people live with dignity, to feed hungry babies, to care for mothers and children, to support those who do our dangerous, unpleasant work so we can live easier lives.

Instead we are plagued by people who devalue anything that does not give them personal pleasure. Their money, their house, their job, their convenience, their ego, their pleasure. That is all there is and all there ever was.

Her husband has all of that $$$ from killing jobs, and leaving the pensions to PBGC ( i.e. funded by taxes ) when he only pays 13% on $20 million.

McArdle is such a vile harpy.

The last word that springs to mind when the topic is Meegan is "deft".

Mr. Joyner is a wide-eyed innocent, evidently. Or he agrees with McArdle's attitude and doesn't see what all the fuss is about.

Yeah, my version of "not politically deft" would be something like implying that everyone who accepts Social Security or Medicare is a parasite.

There's a whole conversation on twitter between McArdle and Jesse Taylor--hilarity ensues. I'll try to get it up later.

And of course, Meagan was "supported by the state." Daddy made a lot of money off all those contracts the got from what was it, the State of New York? Kept young McMegan in bon-bons, I'll bet...

Cal Thomas has a weird couple of paragraphs for him:

If a woman "chooses" to work at home (and aren't politically liberal women supposed to support a woman's career choice?) and if she feels adequately compensated, shouldn't her choice be affirmed, not only by her husband or partner, if she has one, but also by society?

Similarly, if a woman wants to work, or must work outside her home, shouldn't she be equally supported by society and not made to feel added guilt and pressure? Reasonable people ought to be able to answer, "yes," to both questions.

Gee, Cal, I agree completely, but where you see affirmation and compensation equalling nothing I figure they should amount to SOMETHING.

@Substance, Cal Thomas has developed an interesting habit of being mildly lucid at times as he has aged. He comes so very very close to making sense there. So close.

Well, ladies, clearly the solution is to marry rich. Freedom!

I don't think Joyner's going to pull the innocent routine again.

Batocchio: And be born beautiful and well-connected. And never have your income drop.

I find this difficult to believe.

I mean, he had SO FAR to go to even be able to SEE lucidity....

Yes, please. And speaking of twitter, I see that Megan is in Honolulu "for work." Never before has a book deal seemed so undeserved.
