And who wouldn't be thrilled to hire McArdle? She chronicled the economic disruptions by alternately denying they existed, ignoring them when they occurred, and attempting to hide the consequences of the events. Her coverage of corporate America could not have been more attentive; every time they wanted anything from the public or government, McArdle leaped to defend and support them. And her knowledge of the technical disruptions of the last decade were epitomized by her posts regaling her readers with her camp-out on the streets to be the first in line to buy an expensive new phone.
Washington, D.C.-based writer for Newsweek/Daily Beast and blogger Megan McArdle is joining the ranks of Bloomberg View, where she will be a columnist covering the economy, business, politics and national affairs.
“Megan is an extraordinary writer and thinker,” said David Shipley, Executive Editor of Bloomberg View in a morning statement. “Few people have done a better job chronicling the economic, corporate and technological disruptions of the last decade. She’s going to make a lot of readers — those who have followed her for years and those who will discover her at Bloomberg — smarter and happier. We’re thrilled that she’s joining the team.”
Let's not forget her extraordinary thinking skills. Her analytical ability, her nuance while navigating tricky moral issues, and most of her keen grasp of logic and reason. These skills enabled her to decide to vote for Bush twice, botch the biggest economic disaster of our times, come out against gay marriage and abortion while claiming to be socially liberal, and never, ever fail to be wrong about practically everything.
Good luck, McArdle!

This news brings with it another piece of good news. Isn't it a sign that The Daily Beast is imploding?
Based on McArdle's finely honed sense of self-preservation and advancement I'd say yes, the writing is on the wall.

And the fucker didn't spontaneously combust?
Yet more proof that there is no God.

"extraordinary" does have more than one definition, Deadhead-dude.
Based on 5 minutes of deep research, it seems Bloomberg View is a 2 year old operation desperately hiring anybody with a recognizable name in an effort to finally get noticed before the plug gets pulled.
i.e., I'd never heard of them either.
They probably think she was instrumental in expanding media online at the Economist and the Atlantic. Little do they know....
And yes, exceptional is not always a good thing. Someone can be exceptionally inept, for example.
WRT "exceptionally inept,"
"Heckuva job, Brownie" comes to mind.
Well, our little Megan does come an intellectually intimidating family. In her world, that seems to count for everything.
So, how long before she joins Asshat in the hallowed halls of NYT? My 10€ is on early 2015.
That sounds pretty good; maybe sooner if she thoroughly and disgustingly humiliates herself in public again, as she did after that shooting.
Who would have known that the best way for an elite to get ahead is to frequently demonstrate how dimwitted and immoral they are?
I guess those are very desirable qualities now; people with brains and a conscience might muck up the 1%'s plans.

I think you might be onto something.

Voltaire.
Well, then.
Might be time for FMM to live again.
Who am I kidding, I can't read that shit.
I knew I knew Shipley from somewhere.
Former editor of the OpEd at NYT, former husband of conspiracy nut Naomi Wolf. Lovely.
Anyone read the Awl and Village Voice enough to know whether that's good or bad for McMegan's career politics? Too thick in the weeds of those fucks for me to know.
I found this:
For two years, Ms McArdle was also a Bernard L. Schwartz fellow at the New America Foundation, where she did the research for her forthcoming book on how failure is the key to success. The Up Side of Down will be published by Viking in February 2014. - See more at: http://www.noodls.com/viewNoodl/19041111/bloomberg-lp/bloomberg-view-announces-megan-mcardle-as-columnist#sthash.BqLaAn2k.dpuf
You mean we aren't going to see McArdle on tv saying she has permission to suck for sale?
I'm not sure this counts as a success. I'm not intimately familiar with the world of journalism, but the list of publications she's worked for -- The Economist, The Atlantic, The Daily Beast, and now some obscure Bloomberg thing -- looks to me like it's a step down in prestige every time.
Snark aside, she isn't a particularly good or original or interesting or even hard working writer. Her "Jane Galt" gimmick worked well enough for dashed off blog entries, but she hasn't come up with anything since.
Curious, that appears to be the only mention of her book being slated for publication anywhere on the net, at least from a cursory googlin and visit to amazon. I suspect it really means it'll be published Feb "next year", which will continue to roll over.
Viking/Penguin's website doesn't seem to know who this Megan McArdle I'm asking it about is, either.
David Shipley – was a gun to his head? Is he stupid, evil, or crazy?
The last person who said McArdle is brilliant was David Brooks so I'm going with stupid.
It's her last day at the Beast, and what may be her last post is inoffensive stuff about the replacement of legal secretaries by software - http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2013/06/27/legal-eagles.html
