The Wisdom of the Ages

Shorter Megan McArdle: Here is a commercial for Real Clear Politics which is not a commercial.

Shorter Sean Trende [really] of RealClearPolitics: "It is just this bizarre, perfect storm of events that got us to this place."

Money quote:

So if you're a strategic voter, the thing to do is to check the RealClearPolitics poll average for your state on the morning of the election, and vote for whichever candidate is leading there? (Note to readers: That shameless plug for Sean's fine site was not in any way solicited. I myself check it like one of those rats in lab experiments, pressing the little lever to get another pellet.)

I knew it.

Susan -

Here's some solace about lab rats: they almost always die.

That's true. In fact, the scientist sometimes lets them gorge until they die to see how far they'll go.

Perhaps one day McArdle will be so inundated with Amazon boxes that she will be unable to find the refrigerator and starve to death.

Almost always? What the hell kinds of labs are you hanging out in?

Surely it depends on the experiment.

The rat could become immortal, as long as he chops off the heads of the rest of the rats before they get to him.

It could grow younger. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golden_Years_(miniseries)
