She starts off that post reminding everyone how personal perfume is and that you shouldn't buy a woman a scent you are not sure she likes, then goes on to recommend make-up, something that is probably even more personal. Besides, who buys make-up for someone at Christmas (a question that we've all pretty much asked for about 90% of the garbage she's recommended)?

Added bonus: the "Yes, yes, I'm sure I need it" comment preceding the part on make-up, assuring her adoring male readers in advance that they don't need to tell her how beautiful she is and that she doesn't need make-up at all. Couple that with the e-mail from one of her readers telling her she's so powerful and influential that the butter boat she recommended sold out at Amazon (probably because they only had about three in stock in the first place) and our Megan is a beacon of modesty today.

I wouldn't buy makeup for my wife without specifics--let alone for someone as a Xmas present. Getting the wrong foundation/lipstick color/eyeliner/ etc. is worse than not getting anything. ("You really think I can use this?? Why, just because your last girl friend did?")

Not to mention that giving your wife or girlfriend make-up might be taken as a subtle suggestion that she's not pretty enough and she needs it. Just not a good idea all around, guys...

When do we get the manly-man edition with motorcycle parts and gunsmithing tools?

Video games and electronics?

I guess you can do a girly-man edition too if you like. It's your blog.

Well, it's still not technically possible to buy a gun in DC, and I haven't wielded a chain saw since I was 16.

Depending on how seriously you take the interstate commerce clause, it should still be possible to make a gun in DC, and what guy wouldn't like a mill, a lathe, and a couple chunks of 4140 steel for Christmas?

At least, that's what I'd like.

Ken,
You really think I can use this?? Why, just because your last girl friend did?
I would file a response like this under "I got off easy."

Fourteen-year-old girls love getting make-up sets. Everyone else, not so much.
