Digby reminds us that making life difficult for Democrats isn't just a job for the beltway Villagers, it's also their means of entertainment. When you're a Mean Girl you have to have someone to torment, to show off your power. But I'm going to go out on a limb and say that Obama might surprise them. The Villagers think he's weak because he's a Democrat and a black man, and obviously intelligent. But Obama wasn't weak against McCain, and Obama likes power. A lot.
A president that punished his Republican enemies instead of being mowed down by them would be satisfying to see. But presidential enemies can come from anywhere, and that includes his own party as well.
