Cheap Dialogue

From Megan McArdle:

Dear Ellen,

We are doing the poor a favor by exploiting them for our cheap goods. What am I missing?

Cheers, Megan

Direct Quote: "If they weren't making pitiful wages building us cheap goods in factories that aren't nearly as pleasant as American factories, they'd be doing something much worse."

She really is a quite dreadful person. That's all you need to know--her ideas are based on flawed values and therefore will be flawed as well.

Hello,

You know the weird thing is, her arguments are very similar to those used by the British when they were occupying India. "If we aren't there to occupy them then how will they get decent roads and other 'stuff' to become civilized?".

It was crap then and it's crap now.

Regards,
