There's Always Iran

Shorter Michael Gerson: If only Obama could stand on a pile of burning rubble and corpses with a bullhorn and lead us into economic ruin and an endless parade of wars, destruction and death while weeping crocodile tears, he'd finally be a leader.

You know what, Michael Gerson? Fuck you.

If politics were literature, Bill Clinton would be Tom Buchanan in "The Great Gatsby," casually smashing lives around him while remaining untouched by the chaos he creates.

You know who that sounds like to me? Your ex-boss. You know, the guy who led us into a pointless war on false pretenses, played guitar while an American city drowned, and presided over the gutting of the economy. Why don't you go into a VA hospital somewhere and talk about how Clinton was the president who casually smashed lives while remaining untouched.

Ah, the Republican wet dream: endless war, a musclebound military, and a labor force kept in its place by economic scarcity.

Um, haven't we seen this scenario before? In a little book called "1984"?

I bet Gerson never read Gatsby, or if he was forced to in High School or college, I doubt he understood it. Like Megan, he's trying to cloak his Projection/False Equivalence with an intellectual-like simile.

I've notice Gatsby-comparisons pop up from time-to-time on Progressive Blogs. He probably rubbed his slimy hands together in glee at the thought of "using a Liberal's words to destroy him!". Or something.
