All Dead Are Equal, But Some Dead Are More Equal Than Others

Glenn Greenwald:

No thought is given to what it is like, what emotions it generates, what
horrible acts start to appear justifiable, when you have a hostile foreign army
control your borders and airspace and internal affairs for 40 years, one which
builds walls around you, imposes the most intensely humiliating conditions on
your daily life, blockades your land so that you're barred from exiting and
prevented from accessing basic nutrition and medical needs for your children
to the point where a substantial portion of the underage population suffers from stunted growth.

Megan McArdle:

On the other side, there's a tendency to forget, or forget to mention, that
whatever the provocation, a plurality-to-majority of Palestinians constantly
and actively wish to kill large numbers of Israelis purely for revenge. Gaza wants
to be at war with Israel, and then hide behind the protections of not-quite-war,
because they haven't the foggiest hope of winning anything like a real war.

Also Megan McArdle:

Tall people are richer because they are smarter. Or so says much of the new
research, including a new paper noted by Paul Caron. The theory makes intuitive
sense, of course, and dovetails with my empirical experience.

When you're one of our nationalist, thoughtless, compassionless pundits, every death is an opportunity to congratulate one's self for not being one of the victims of one's success.

I keep quoting these dead white guys for a reason. We seem to be repeating some particularly nasty history, right now.
